Launched in 2010 with the goal of offering quality, thoughtfully crafted jewelry, Liza Michelle Jewelry is all about taking notice. LMJ celebrates the beautiful minutia of the world around us through the artful use of natural materials. Each twig, pine cone, thorn or berry is handpicked from nature and cast in solid metal to create one of a kind piece every time. In addition to great design, every piece of jewelry is made using recycled metals, ethically sourced semi-precious and precious stones, and responsible studio practices. It is so important to me to preserve the environment I draw so much inspiration from.
The LMJ studio is located in Ohio City, a bustling neighborhood of Cleveland's near westside. I walk the three blocks from my home to the studio each day, stopping to pick more twigs as I go. The studio itself is filled with tools, equipment, small collections of plants and other objects I draw inspiration from. I love working in the city, there is so much life and vibrancy, it definitely drives the work I do.
I started Liza Michelle Jewelry in 2010 after graduating from the Cleveland Institute of Art. Inspired not so much by nature, but by the act of taking notice, I started to develop and hone my small collection. I enjoy seeking out new forms in nature, and figuring out how they will translate to metal, and transform into jewelry. LMJ is about elevating those objects that we take for granted. It's about finding beauty in the small things, and slowing down long enough to appreciate them. By 2013 I knew I wanted to work for myself, and went full time with the business. Since, I have worked tirelessly to grow this business to provide not only quality jewelry, but employment opportunities for jewelers and artists in and around Cleveland.
